During the COVID-19 pandemic, in seventh and eighth grade, I used up my abundance of time by pouring hours into hyperrealistic portraits of celebrities I admired, such as FKA Twigs. Music largely inspires my creative process, and her album Caprisongs accompanied me for the months it took to finish this colored pencil drawing. At that time, I would draw to impress my parents and their validation fueled my motivation to keep on creating drawings that were so realistic, you couldn’t tell that it wasn’t a photo.
