Ginger for Evelyn

Acrylic paint on canvas

16” by 20”

2024

This past summer, I was asked by one of my friends to make a portrait of her dog, Ginger, who was diagnosed with Leukemia. Since the creation of this painting, Ginger has passed, but her memory will live on in this gift to my friend’s mother. In this piece, I got to reawaken my knack for realistic portraits, as well as my skill for depicting exactly what I see. I made this painting shortly after I made The Moth painting, and I like how they overlap, namely in that they are both momentary paintings of animals.
