Stippled Self-Portrait

05 Micron pen on toned tan paper

5” by 4”

2024

Over the summer I decided to try out stippling and it became one of my favorite art styles. I found that the use of little dots to create a scene is very similar to embroidery or bead work, which I utilize in other art pieces. I took a photo of myself and edited it so that the darks in the photo popped and appeared grainy. From there, I did a rough sketch of my face and then began to stipple with the Micron pen. I had no idea how it was going to turn out, (given it was my first time) but it appears so realistic that every time I open my sketchbook I think, “Ah! It’s me!”
